01Agreement to these terms
These terms are a contract between you and refract (“we”, “us”) covering the refract website, the free in-browser tools, and the paid Google Drive automations (the “service”). By using the service you accept these terms and our privacy policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use the service. You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding contract.
02The service
refract converts images to WebP, removes studio backgrounds, and centers products on square canvases. The free tools run entirely in your browser with no account. Paid plans add server-side automations that watch a Google Drive folder you choose, process new photos, and upload the results to a destination folder you choose.
03Your account
Paid features require signing in with Google. Keep your Google account secure — you are responsible for activity under your refract account. Provide accurate information and tell us promptly about any unauthorised use.
04Plans, billing & cancellation
- Billing. Subscriptions are priced in Kenyan Shillings and billed monthly through Paystack (M-Pesa or card). Prices are shown on the pricing page and exclude any taxes we are required to add.
- Renewal. Plans renew automatically each month until cancelled.
- Cancellation. Cancel any time from Dashboard → Billing. You keep paid features until the end of the period you’ve paid for; we don’t refund partial months except where the law requires.
- Price changes. We may change prices with at least 30 days’ notice; changes apply from your next renewal.
- Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, we may downgrade your account to the free plan after a reasonable retry period.
05Usage limits
Each plan includes a monthly quota of server-side conversions and a maximum number of automation pipelines, as listed on the pricing page. Quotas reset each calendar month (UTC). When a quota is reached, automations pause until the next month or until you upgrade. We may throttle or refuse processing that circumvents quotas or degrades the service for others.
06Your content
You own your images. So that automations can work, you grant us a limited, revocable licence to download, process, and re-upload the files your automations point at — solely to provide the service, and nothing else. We do not use your images for training, marketing, or any other purpose. You are responsible for having the rights to the images you process and for the results you publish.
07Google Drive automations
- Authorisation. Connecting Drive authorises us to access it as described in the privacy policy. Disconnecting Drive (or revoking access in your Google account) stops automations.
- Folder choice is yours. Automations write processed files into the destination folder you select. Double-check source and destination folders — we are not responsible for files placed where your configuration directs them.
- Scheduling is best-effort. Folders are scanned roughly every five minutes, but timing is not guaranteed.
08Acceptable use
Don’t use the service to:
- process or distribute content that is unlawful or that infringes someone else’s rights;
- upload malicious files or attempt to probe, overload, or disrupt the service;
- reverse-engineer the service, scrape it, or resell it without our written permission;
- evade usage limits, for example by creating multiple accounts.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that break these rules.
09Availability & changes
We work to keep refract fast and reliable, but the service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis and may be interrupted for maintenance or reasons beyond our control. We may add, change, or retire features; if we materially reduce a paid feature, we will give notice so you can cancel first.
10Disclaimers
Background removal and product centering are automated and work best on studio-style photos; results can be imperfect on complex images. Review outputs before publishing them. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose.
11Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost profits, revenue, or data. Our total liability for claims relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose (or KES 1,500 if you have paid nothing). Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
12Termination
You may stop using the service or cancel your subscription at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these terms. On termination your automations stop and stored data is handled as described in the privacy policy. Sections 06 and 10–13 survive termination.
13Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Kenya.
14Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we will update the date at the top and, for material changes, notify signed-in users before they take effect. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
